A Kitchen That Never Needed Ghee To Prove Itself
It Started As A Habit, Not A Statement
Long before "vegan" was a word anyone in our family used, our grandmother made her festival ladoos the same way every year — dates, roasted nuts, a little cardamom, and hours of hand-rolling in a steel thali. There was no ghee in her recipe. Not because she was making a point about it, but because her mother hadn't used it either, and the ladoos never once needed it to taste right.
It was only years later, watching almost every "premium" or "pure" sweets brand build its entire trust story around cow ghee or A2 Bilona ghee, that we realised what we'd been sitting on the whole time: a genuinely traditional mithai recipe that happened to be 100% plant-based, made with intention rather than compromise.
Why We Named It Shudh & Vegan
Shudh means pure. In most Indian kitchens, purity and ghee have been treated as the same idea for so long that nobody questions it. We wanted a name that said the opposite plainly: purity was never about the ghee. It was about using real, whole ingredients, prepared by hand, with nothing hidden in the ingredient list.
What Hasn't Changed
We still hand-roll every batch in small quantities — never a factory line, never a six-month shelf life. We still sweeten only with deseeded dates, the way it was always done before refined sugar became the default. And we still believe a festival gift should taste like it came from someone's kitchen, not a factory.
What We're Building Now
Shudh & Vegan exists so that the growing number of people who are vegan, lactose-intolerant, satvik in their eating, or simply done with "healthy" mithai that quietly still contains dairy, don't have to choose between purity and tradition. You can have both. That's the entire brand, in one sentence.

Small Batches, On Purpose
We don't hold finished stock. Every batch is rolled, packed and dispatched within 24 hours, because a ladoo with no preservatives simply doesn't keep the way a shelf-stable one does — and we'd rather ship less often than compromise on that.
